An anterograde transsynaptic AAV1 carrying Cre was placed in the orbitofrontal cortex together with an AAV1-Flpo in the basolateral amygdala and a Cre-dependent/Flp-dependent EYFP reporter in the dorsomedial striatum. EYFP-labelled striatal neurons appeared only when both recombinase viruses were delivered, indicating that orbitofrontal axons transsynaptically label dorsomedial striatal cells, which were then recorded in slices.
