BST (Bed nuclei of the stria terminalis) MBA:351 functionally connects to LHA (Lateral hypothalamic area) MBA:194 · Mouse

A minority of the synaptically connected LHA neurons (6 of 42) responded to optical stimulation of BNST axons with light-evoked EPSCs only; in the rare cells where evoked EPSCs persisted with TTX, 4-AP and gabazine, the AMPA-receptor blocker DNQX confirmed glutamatergic transmission.

BST (Bed nuclei of the stria terminalis) MBA:351 functionally connects to LHA (Lateral hypothalamic area) MBA:194 · Mouse

After ChR2 was expressed in BNST neurons, blue light stimulation of BNST axons in LHA slices evoked postsynaptic currents in 42 of 70 patched LHA neurons; 36 of those 42 connected cells showed light-evoked IPSCs that persisted with TTX/4-AP (monosynaptic) and were nearly abolished by the GABA-A antagonist gabazine. Connected cells were spread along the anterior–posterior LHA but were most common in middle and posterior LHA.
